CAMS-43 Aerosol Modelling
CAMS-43 is further developing the C-IFS model, which shows the aerosol content in the atmosphere.
CAMS-43 uses the global model (ECMWF) to alert every day on extreme concentrations of aerosol content in the atmosphere through the service 'Aerosol Alert Service'.
Aerosol means particles (or particulates) in the atmosphere, and the aerosol service shows which areas have high aerosol concentrations for three consecutive days at any time. This is important for the decision makers, who must put in place measures when they see that the aerosol concentrations are high in their area (marked with a red colour). In Norway, particulate matter (PM) is a winter topic as lots of dust is sent whirling into the air on the roads, and in the aerosol service for Oslo, particulate matter (PM) is therefore being measured.
The project will finance approx one half-time position at MET.
